Thread(ed): Interlacing womxn in the 21st century, by Dr Adéle Adendorff and Georgina Glass, invites artists and the public to contribute to a digital quilt that engages critically with thread, fibre or textile as a medium of expression.

INSTA-DOG

INSTA-DOG, by Dr Karli Brittz, investigates dogstagrams and the Dogs of Instagram using a mix of computational, quantitative and theoretical methods, as well as automatic image recognition software. It assembles a close and distant reading of dogstagrams examined over three years and includes a dataset of 6000 images of dogs posted on Instagram.

SENSING THE UP PIAZZA

In this project, by Dr Jenni Lauwrens, DH meets sensory ethnography. This audio-visual archive is a collaborative project that documents and critically analyses data collected at the University of Pretoria's Student Centre and Piazza. Students enrolled in the BA(Hons) Visual Studies programme in 2017 collected data - in the form of photographs and voice-notes - at the site, uploaded this material to create the archive, and then analysed the archive in an interactive multimedia reflection essay.

VISUALISING PATHWAYS

This project by Dr Rory du Plessis, uses GIS to visualise the pathways of eight patients who repeatedly returned to the Grahamstown Lunatic Asylum (GLA), to explore the narratives and pathways of patients who were readmitted to the asylum. The project is further discussed in Voices from the South: Digital Arts and Humanities (Du Preez 2018).
